P90X Plyometrics Rock Star Hop

P90X Plyometrics Rock Star Hop (these were fun!)

Holy crap!!! P90X Plyometrics kicked my butt! I literally just finished P90X Plyometrics a few minutes ago, and I’m still dripping in sweat (I’m drinking my P90X Recovery drink as I’m typing this). My hip flexors are really sore from doing Ab Ripper X yesterday, so that made this P90X workout even harder.

The P90X Plyometrics workout consists of over 30 different jumping exercises such as jump squats, airborne heismans, leapfrog squats, etc. Tony Horton emphasizes thinking like a “cat” by leaping off the toes and landing softly and quietly on the balls of the feet to minimize the risk of injury during the exercises. I have never really enjoyed cardio exercises, but the P90X Plyometrics was actually pretty fun.

I started out pretty strong on this P90X workout (with the exception of the squats, which were really painful because of my hip flexors…sorry to keep complaining about them!), but about half way through I was struggling to keep up. All of the muscles in my legs were burning and I had to take a few extended breaks and pause the P90X DVD. I really enjoyed the Rock Star Hop, and the Gap Jump exercises (they were just fun to do). Despite all of the burning pain in my legs and hip flexors I felt throughout the P90X Plyometrics workout, I really enjoyed it and feel great that I finished it.

I think my nutrition today was so-so again. I had a bowl of Fiber One and a protein shake for breakfast, and then I had another protein shake as a snack a few hours later. For lunch I had a turkey sandwich with some Sun Chips. For dinner I had a PB & J, and another protein shake. Now that I’m just about finished this post I’m almost finished drinking my P90X Recovery drink. I think that will be all I eat this evening. Tomorrow I want to do a better job of  incorporating some fruit and vegetables in my diet.

Day 2 down, and only 88 days to go (I don’t know how long I’ll keep this countdown going, because it’s like counting down to Christmas…it makes it take forever to come)!!!

  1. Unless you’ve broken or torn something, keep on going! I noticed some great results after the first 30 days and I wasn’t sticking to the diet as recommended, but did eat fewer carbs and more protein. Trust the process!!!

    • I appreciate the advice! Will do! I’m exhausted from Plyometrics, so I will definitely sleep well tonight! Thanks again!

  2. Dude, just finished my 2nd day as well. I can’t friggin walk barely. The muscles up near my hips, but still in my legs burn whenever I move. If I stand up straight..its even difficult LOL

Its like after diong P90x on a particular body part..I don’t want to do it again for a few days LOL :) Glad tomorrow is no legs. ha

    • That’s funny! I’ve been struggling all day too!!!

      Keep up the good work!!

  3. I am starting Saturday.

Depending on size, what is the heaviest dumbbell weight the program uses (about)? I need to guy buy movable dumbbell weights before I start, so I was wondering.

Anything else I need to get besides a pull-up bar and movable dumbbell weights?

    • It really depends on what your goal is with P90X. If you are looking to build muscle, than you should choose a weight that will cause you to “fail” at 8-10 reps. If you are looking to tone and build lean, strong muscles, than choose a weight that you will fail at 12+ reps.

For me, I’m looking to build muscle. I’m currently using 20lb dumbbells for most of the exercises. I’m finding that I’m not failing at 8-10 reps so I’m going to have to go out and buy more plates for my dumbbells. Once you start doing P90X you’ll find out if you need more weight pretty quickly. I wish I had bought something with more plates.

Lastly, go here to find out the P90X Equipment you’ll need– P90X Gear Needed to do the P90X Workout

Good luck on your start with P90X! Let me know if I can be of any help!

  4. I LOVE Plyo…nice pic of the rockstar hop.

    • I appreciate it! I really enjoyed plyo too! My wife took that picture. She got some great shots!

  5. I am with you man — on day 2 and did plyo this morning, felt like an idiot doing those superstar mary catherines, LOL. I am feeling good about this though and keep looking to the future because i know that the hard work will pay off.
Not really sticking to the meal plan but just generally eating healthier (I am a glutton for McD and Wendys!) and taking supplements.

Like those pics though — gonna see if i can get my wife to snap me in action. Side note, my wife has actually gone through the whole thing.. yeah… I am slack. We were supposed to do it together…. see how that turned out.

I am making no more excuses! Lets get ripped to shreds and make em cry!

    • Good! I was the same way for the longest time. I made lots and lots of excuses why I couldn’t go to the gym, why I couldn’t go on a run, etc., etc. My wife was going to the gym daily, but I was just sitting at home watching tv.

Keep me updated on how you’re doing! Let’s do this together!!

  6. Just finished my own day 2. I agree, the rockstar hops were fun! I think I need to modify the basketball moves though. I scraped my fingers up on the apartment ceiling pretty good. Once my jump height starts improving, they might be suicidal.

    • Ouch!!!! That sounds painful! You could always just do a different move in place of the basketball moves. Maybe do the Run-Stance Squat Switch Pick-Up or the Airborne Heisman’s. Maybe do something that is harder for you so that you get better & stronger from doing it again.

Yea I enjoyed doing the Rock Star Hops! Congrats for your progress and keep up the hard work!!!

  7. I just finished my day 2 – Plyometrics!!! It was tough, as I expected, but I got through the whole thing okay. I felt my heart beating in my head through the whole thing and am currently drenched in sweat. I found that my lower body is pretty weak, I was modifying toward the end of the video and on some of the repeat sequences.

I felt some soreness in my shoulders during the slow marches, so I think tomorrow’s workout will be a fun struggle for me.

Even though it’s only day 2, I can “see the light.” I don’t think keeping with the program will be too difficult for me.

My nutrition was better today – whole grain cereal in 1% milk and orange juice for breakfast, a ~12oz ribeye with a small baked potato and broccoli, I’m drinking a protein shake right now and I’m thinking egg & potato taco’s for dinner.

    • It feels incredible when you finish Plyo doesn’t it?? Keep up the AWESOME work buddy! BRING IT!!!!

  8. Is it okay to break up this video and do it in half? Like half of it in the morning and half at night?

    • To get the best workout, you really should do it all in one session. Why do you want to split it up?

  9. Whoo that was fun! As much as I enjoyed that I think I’m going to have to start doing a hybrid. I just didn’t feel as pushed as within insanity’s plyo but it was a blast ha. I’m excited to see what tomorrows brings!

    • After Insanity, the cardio in P90X will be easy! You can just replace Plyometrics and Kenpo X with an Insanity workout if you need to.

GREAT job buddy and KEEP pushing play! Hope you have an AWESOME New Year! Keep us updated on your progress!

  10. Did you go the full length of the workouts by the second week? I’m on day 9 (2nd week plyo). And I am whipped by 30 min. I am doing mine @ night after working all day, but still…just wondering where I stand.

    • Everyone is at different fitness levels going into P90X, so if you’re exhausted 30 minutes in, it’s ok! As Tony Horton says, “Just do your best and forget the rest.” Really take that to heart and do what you can. If you’re always giving 100%, then you’ll get stronger and stronger.

  11. I just finish my day 2, my legs feels really sore. I am really excited for the workout tomorrow. I have 4 eggs white, spinach, 2 slice of onion chopped, one tomato, 2 slice of fat free turkey bacon. And a fat free Yogurt for breakfast. For lunch I have one cup of oatmeal with 2 tbs of honey and brown sugar. For snack I have one cup of peanuts and one protein bar. For dinner I have a level III Chef’s salad. I feel great. I did drink a 40g protein shake after I workout. Can you please tell me if this is a good food plan. p.s. I did drink about 100 oz of water today. Thank you.

    • As long as you are sticking with your nutritional proportions ( http://trek2befit.com/p90x-diet-plan ) then you’re good!
