P90X Ab Ripper X Seated Crunchy Frog

P90X Ab Ripper X Seated Crunchy Frog

I just finished Ab Ripper X and Back & Biceps! I did Ab Ripper X first today because I knew Back & Biceps would be an intense P90X workout. I probably wouldn’t have been able to give Ab Ripper X my all if I did it second. Ab Ripper X went pretty good today. My legs are extremely sore from Plyometrics on P90X day 37 so the In & Out, Seated Bicycle, and the Seated Frog were pretty painful since I had to hold my legs up. Also, during the Fifer Scissor I did drop my left leg down for a second, which is something that I usually don’t do.

Back & Biceps was intense just like last week! I feel like I did do better though. Last week I started out with 25 pound dumbbells, and I went all the way down to 15 pound dumbbells. Today I started out with 30 pound dumbbells (only used 30′s for the Lawnmowers), and I went down to 15 pound dumbbells only for the Strip-Set Curls. After the Lawnmowers, I used the 25 pound dumbbells, and I used those until about the halfway point of the workout. I then used 20 pound dumbbells for the remaining exercises. For some of the exercises my reps did decrease, but that was due to the increased weight.

Also, I did the Strip-Set Curls correctly today. I initially tried to use the 30 pound dumbbells for the first set, but my arms were just too tired. I ended up using 25 pound dumbbells for 2 sets, went down to 20 pounds, and then down to 15 pounds. I was only able to do all 8 reps for the 20 & 15 pound dumbbells. I really enjoy this P90X workout, and I know I’m going to be feeling this tomorrow!

  1. I love this DVD. I think 21′s are my favorite bicep workout and will use them well after this program ends.

    • I love this P90X DVD too! I like how it’s pretty much different exercises one after the other. The Corn Cob Pull up is my favorite one…just kidding! My favorite is probably the Strip-Set curl even though it is a pretty basic move. I just like the intensity of it.

      • I died a little on the inside again when the girl wanted to do corn cob’s for her max rep at the end.

lol! That’s funny! She still annoys me for some reason…I don’t know if it’s her voice or what.

          • It’s her voice AND her brown-nose attitude towards Tony.

          • Agreed! :-)

  2. Yep… she’s annoying for those same reasons and some I just can’t put my finger on.
Question: Are you guys having issues with pullups at this point? I’m starting to get frustrated with those. I’m about 5’11″ and 200lbs, so I don’t know if I’m just to heavy to do pullups yet. I still do them with the chair assist, but wish I could pump out 3-4 per exercise at least.
    What do you think?

    • Pull ups is one of those things that comes with time. Are you on day 38 of P90X?

Here’s my advice as far as doing pullups during P90X-

Try to not to use the chair as much as you can. Pull yourself up 1/4 of the way, 1/2 of the way, 3/4′s of the way…Pull yourself up as high as you can and record how many you do each set and how high you go (say if you can only go 1/4 of the way, just write down how many 1/4 pull ups you do, etc.). Use the chair only when you can’t physically pull yourself up any more.

Strive to do more each time you do the workouts. If you do that, you will continually be pushing your muscles as far as they can go which will increase your strength over time. The key is to just keep doing pull ups without the chair as much as possible.

Also, don’t get frustrated if you don’t always beat the number of reps as you did before. It will take time. Maintaining proper form is also very important so make sure to always maintain good form. “Quality over quantity” as Tony Horton likes to say.

So stick with it Ray!! Please continue to keep us updated on your progress with P90X! Have an AWESOME day!

  3. Yes, day 38. Starting to see some changes finally and have dropped about 5-6 lbs. Wife giving the extra wink and nod after my workouts!

Thanks Jonathan… I’ve always used the chair for some reason, so I’ll follow your suggestion going forward.

    Keep pressing play!

    • Awesome! CONGRATS for your weight loss with P90X! lol..You’ll keep getting those extra winks for your wife if you stick with it! :-)

Have a good one buddy and keep me updated!
