P90X Day 4 Completed: P90X Yoga X

Day 4: P90X Yoga X
Last night when I told my wife that today was Yoga X day she laughed at me and said, “Jonathan, you’re the most inflexible person I know!” I said, “Yep, it’s going to be rough!” I just completed P90X Yoga X, and it was really rough, but I just did my best and forgot the rest!
During the P90X Yoga X workout, you’ll be doing about 38 different moves in about a hour and a half. All you really need for this P90X workout is a yoga mat, towel, water, & yoga blocks (for beginners like me). This was the first time that I’ve really tried doing yoga. I have done yoga on the Wii Fit before, but I was just playing around and not taking it seriously. This is a very intense yet relaxing P90X workout and will be especially hard for people who have never done yoga before.
In the beginning of Yoga X I feel like I did pretty good for my first serious try at yoga. I was still pretty sore from P90X Shoulders and Arms, so that made some of the moves pretty hard. I started to get used to the Runner’s Pose, Crescent Pose, Warrior One, Warrior Two (all of the basic moves) and doing the the series of Vinyasas. I started to loose my balance with I think it was the Prayer Twist, Standing Splits, and the Half Moon. Again, I’m not very flexible, so I have a very hard time lifting my leg up and keeping it straight.
The balance postures started out not to bad (Tree & Royal Dancer). I did loose my balance a few times though. I definitely wasn’t able to do the crane move (that was insane)! The ab stretches really burned and I wasn’t able to hold them for the entire time.
Lastly, the part I enjoyed the most during P90X Yoga X was the end when you are stretching your legs, and then when you do the Child’s Pose, Corpse Pose, Fetal Pose, and lastly the Meditation Pose. I was very relaxed once I finished those poses. I think next time when I do Yoga X, I’m going to have my wife do it with me. She has done yoga before, so she should be able to help in making sure I maintain the correct form.
As far as my nutrition for the day, for breakfast I had my usual bowl of Fiber One cereal and a protein shake. For lunch I had a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, provolone cheese, and extra virgin olive oil dressing. I also had another protein shake. Prior to starting Yoga X, I had a small cup of grape juice (to give me some energy). Then after Yoga X, I had another protein shake. For dinner I think I may grill some boneless chicken and use a Jamaican-style jerk rub on the chicken, along with a salad (romaine lettuce, tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil & balsamic vinegar).
It’s time to go make some dinner! Tomorrow is Legs and Back, and Ab Ripper X. My abs are still sore from P90X Day 1, P90X Day 3, and now from today. I’m just going to have to suck it up and do my best!

I have this personal thing against yoga. Not sure why. I have never had the patience for it. So, I skip it and do cardio X. I know, I know, I should give it a chance but I’ve tried yoga for YEARS off and on…just don’t like it.
It was really tough! Yea, you should definitely give it a try one day. I’m about the most inflexible person there is, but I just did my best.
Ron,
Although cardio is essential; if you’re a P90X participant, you’re more than merely aware of how much Tony Horton reiterates stretching! Like you, Yoga could sometimes be a bit of a challenge, but a necessary component to the elongated, toned muscle tone I’m aiming to acquire. I’m sure most men seek to bulk up with weight training, and maintain endurance with cardio, but stretching prevents injury while performing both.
Best of Luck ~
I did this yesterday as well. I constantly caught my body trying to cheat out of the proper forms of moves. It was definately an eye opener on the strength it takes to perform some of the movements. I have to wonder how much of the difficulty came from being sore due to previous days workouts.
Very true! I knew yoga was pretty tough, but I didn’t realize the amount of strength it took to do the poses properly either. The only thing you can do is just do you best!
Hey Jonathan,
I am right there with you…very tough day this morning. I felt like the program had 2 halfs. The first half which was toughest, and the 2nd half was more of the stretching and varous poses.
I kept looking at that damn timer… 1hr 15 min left, 1 hour left, 45 min left…what a relief when I saw 5 minutes LOL
I felt the same way! I was watching the clock the whole time as well!! The writeup looks good!! Keep up the great work!
I did -not- finish Yoga on day 4. Thanks to jury duty the previous two days and my transition back to nights, I set my alarm for 2am instead of 2pm, and slept 30 minutes too late. The first 45 minutes is all I finished, and that took me over an hour due to constant stops to recover enough to keep holding myself up on my hands. Ah well, I can tell from how tight -everything- is, that if I keep it up, I will finish next time. Next up, legs and back. I’m realizing fairly quick that my sets of weaknesses/strengths are not quite the same as some. I naturally tend to build more compact muscle in my arms, so I’ve always been able to do pushups fairly well, since there isn’t much weight up there, but make me do a downward dog where more of my weight is on my hands, and I run out of steam pretty quick. In contrast, my legs are just the opposite: leg lifts are as much an upper body workout for me as a lower, since I have to press against the mat with my arms to keep from tipping forward.
what in bloody hell….2am are you serious.
What time do you go to bed…7pm? Hell, I go to bed at 2am sometimes LOL
well, one reason I can’t wake up early to work out :)
The first 30-45 minutes is the hardest part of Yoga X (that’s at least what I think) so I’m sure you still got a good workout in. Yoga X was very hard for me in the beginning since I was so inflexible!
You’re doing great! Keep up all of the hard work!!!
I work from 5pm to 5am. I had planned to get up at 2pm to do Yoga, but accidentally set the alarm for 2am instead, so it never went off. If I were in better shape and could finish the whole dvd without stopping it, I might have still had time to do the whole thing, get a shower, and get to work, but I had to start/stop so much, and my calves and arms were so dead, I ended up stopping at about the 45 min. mark and hitting the shower. I guess I’ll keep pushing myself as far as I can on Yoga. I’m gauranteed to see -some- results. My previous workout consisted of sets of pushups and sit-ups twice a week with a mile or two run on Saturdays if I didn’t have work. As long as I apply myself and do p90x every day, I’ll see better than I -was- seeing.
That’s definitely what you need to do- just do your best each time and you’ll get better and better! I couldn’t touch my toes when I started P90X (and I’ve never been able to touch my toes), and now I can.
What kind of diet are you doing with P90X? Are you following the nutrition guide or doing some other diet?
You’re doing an awesome job so far!! Just keep pushing play! :-)
I am doing my best to follow -a- diet. I’ve cut out pop and straight-up junk, but due to time limitations and my wife’s physical inability to cook right now, most meals consist of the healthiest frozen or fast food we can find, plus a GNC protein shake after each workout, and a few amway products (cereal, snack bars, energy bars) which have been part of our diet for a few years now. Hopefully her wheelchair will be fixed next week, and we can start cooking again.
Great job for cutting out the soda and the junk! For me, cutting the soda out pretty tough! There are some pretty good “diet” alternatives, but I try to stay away from those as much as possible too.
Again, great job and keep up the awesome work!
Ok, last night i did yoga x. It wasn’t that difficult for what i experienced. what make it difficult may be the long hour and a half. I was a soccer player and trained everyday i think that helped my with the elasticity to make the poses, at least most of them i just dont have the strenght to make them for the entire time in some cases. Some of them were easy to do but my legs started to hurt in 20 seconds. Overall is not that hard for me and it helped me a lot with my soreness due to the constant streching of my arms so i did like it. I believe i may be able to do the entire workout after the first month when the soreness is gone and my my muscles are better. Now, im waiting for today’s workout… I want to get x’ed :) one thing have me worried though, due to my schedule the last two days i found myself sleeping only for 6 and 5 hours couse i finish my workout at midnight and have my recovery drink and bathe it takes me an hour and wake up at 7
Do you think i can do it like that or do i have to force myself into sleeping more?
Great job with the Yoga X! Sleep is essential to muscle growth and for recovery. So yes, I’d definitely try to get more sleep if you can. Great job again, and KEEP PUSHING PLAY buddy!!!!
Thanks for the support. It helps me to keep motivated. I’m gonna try to have at least 8 hours of sleep from now on. Thanks again!!
My pleasure Edy! Good, I’m glad it helps! I want to see you get through ALL 90 days. Have a great weekend and keep me updated!
I just finished Yoga X. Not much to say about it, overall I think I did pretty good for a beginner. As expected, I couldn’t hold some of the advanced moves very well, but I WAS able to touch the ground/my feet on most of the moves. I’ll have to invest in some yoga blocks to really get the moves down. I also had a difficult time holding my arms up from all the weight lifting yesterday endured. I’m not looking forward to legs & back…
Yea, yoga blocks are a must! Sounds like you did your best, so that’s all that matters! Great job!
yoga x was.. different ha never did yoda before. Found I’m not very flexible lol Some of the moves were a bit difficult, I’ve gotta get some blocks. I didn’t feel like I needed a recovery drink afterward but I drank it anyway (its delicious.) Good way to kick off the festivities lawl Happy New Year!!
Nice job buddy! Yea Yoga X is tough, but as long as you did your best, that’s all that matters. Hope you have a Happy New Year too! KEEP pushing play!
