My name is Sam Bruni and I’ve been taking great care of my body since I realized the side effects of not, but recently I went into a slide and have picked up a few pounds. I also get shipped off to basic for the army in September and figured P90X would be great to really get me ready. First, I just wanted to say thanks for helping out. I also thought I’d give you some advice because you said you wanted to become the hulk. I’ve been working out for nearly 8 years now and I found that when I wanted to gain weight there were a few guidelines I followed that worked REALLY well. The first: eat 3 organic eggs, every morning. (They have to be organic or it will raise your cholesterol levels. I see that you work out often, so I’m sure you’ve heard of Scooby, but if not you have to check out his workouts. Here’s the link, scoobysworkshop.com He goes into great detail on bulking up and has several lifting exercises that REALLY work. I followed my own fitness plan using several of his workouts and I went from a measly 165 lbs to an insane 185 lbs of basically all muscle. I gained these 20 lbs in a matter of 3 months. It can be done and when it is, you’ll be RIPPED and HULK-LIKE!!! I say, good luck on your journey!

Are there any other Firefighters using this program? The chest and back workout is such a useful tool for firefighters. It affects every muscle you use as a ARFF firefighter.

Are you sticking with the nutritional proportions though from the P90X fitness guide? If you’re trying to burn fat, then you should be in the Fat Shredder phase. If you’re not doing that, then that likely is the issue. You could also be overtraining. You can burn the fat with the Lean version or the Classic version (and the doubles too). So I’d say do whatever version you enjoy most and that you feel like you get the most out of.

Jonathan,

I have a pretty clean diet. I actually stay below 1800 calories a day. I know that diet is very important. I do not eat or drink any “junk”. I have added protein drinks and protein bars to get more protein since I struggle with eating that much protein. My husband has made the comment a few times that maybe I am over training. Is this a possiblity? A few years ago, I got down to my goal weight in 3 months by running 2 miles a day on the treadmill and eating the same as I do now. I wanted to do the P90X to loose the weight and tone at the same time. I have gotten alot stronger and have built muscle but I would really like to loose the weight and bring down my body fat percentage. Is the lean program a better option for me to do to accomplish this? Or should I start up with another doubles routine for the next 90 days and add the treadmill instead of the cardiox in the morning?

Crazy! That’s cool that you used to live in the area! Congrats for getting back with P90X! Honestly, I’d recommend following the schedule as it is laid out since you’ll get the best results. It’s definitely ok to hold back slightly during your first couple of weeks so you learn your limits (and don’t get so sore that you’re not able to do the workouts). Or you could do what you’re doing for a couple of weeks, and then jump back into the normal schedule. Let us know what you do!

Yes! I typically will do my workouts in the mornings so I get them knocked out for the day (and it’s less likely I’ll skip my workouts). Do whatever you have to do so that you get your workouts done in the mornings. The P90X Results & Recovery drink will help you to regain your energy after your workouts. It will be come your best friend! :-)
