Beachbody Coach Scam or is there really an opportunity here? That is a question a lot of people want to find out who are considering becoming  a Beachbody Coach. That is EXACTLY the question I asked before I became a Coach myself. I’ve been a Coach since January of 2010 so I can shine some light on this topic and expose the truth on the Beachbody Coach Scam (or opportunity).

Beachbody Coach ScamQuick Run Down Of The Opportunity – Beachbody Coach Scam

You likely already know a little bit about what the Beachbody Coach opportunity is all about if you’ve gotten this far and are trying to get more insight on it to make sure it’s not a scam. However, I did one to give you a quick rundown just in case you don’t know much about it. Simply put, a Beachbody Coach is someone who runs a home based business to help other people get fit and healthy. We help people to get fit and healthy through the various in-home fitness programs and nutritional products that the company Beachbody put outs (P90X, Insanity, Turbo Jam, Shakeology etc.).

As a Coach you get commissions on the products you get people to purchase as well as bonuses for growing a team of Coaches. You also get various other bonuses and prizes for growing your business. Isn’t This a Pyramid Scheme Thingy? – Beachbody Coach Scam

beachbody coach pyramid schemeBeachbody Coach scam ALERT! It’s a pyramid scheme! :-) When people ask that, they typically don’t even know what a Pyramid Scheme is. First, a true pyramid scheme is 100% illegal. A pyramid scheme is where a “distributor” gets paid JUST to bring in new distributors and there is no product being exchanged. So if I got paid just to bring on new Coaches (and there was no physical product exchanged), then that would indeed be a pyramid scheme and would be illegal.

As a Beachbody Coach you don’t get paid just for bringing on new Coaches. You only get paid for bringing on new Coaches if that Coach buys or sells product. You get rewarded when that Coach is actually doing something and working to grow their business. Doesn’t that sounds like every other business in the world?

Many managers at the thousands of business around the U.S. get bonuses when their employees or their business center is doing well and growing. Also most companies give their employees referral bonuses JUST for referring new employees to the company who get hired. This is a simple way to motivate people within the company to work and to help grow the business. I don’t know about you, but if I’m growing my business and having success at it, I want to be rewarded and get paid for my efforts! Beachbody Coach scam? So far so good!

Can You Really Make Money? – Beachbody Coach Scam

The simple answer to this question is…YES! But ultimately it depends on you! If the company told you that you are going to make millions of dollars overnight as a Beachbody Coach, then I would say yes…it’s a Beachbody Coach scam. But that isn’t the case. Unfortunately in all businesses there are people who like to make wild claims or who just don’t tell the truth.

If someone has told you that you are guaranteed to make money or that you’re going to make millions overnight as a Beachbody Coach, then I’m hear to tell you they are wrong. You may not make a dime as a Coach. Or you could be making a six figure income within a year. Or you may just make a few hundred dollars a month as a Coach. As I mentioned earlier, it depends on YOU!

If you sign up as a Beachbody Coach expecting the money to just start flooding into your bank account with you doing NOTHING or VERY LITTLE WORK then you are living in a fantasy world and are just chasing the money. Just like ANY business, in the beginning you will be working your butt off for little pay. You will make little or no money in the beginning, but with time, hard work, and consistency you will see your income rise and rise, and rise (as long as you continue to take action).

The Negatives Of Being A Beachbody Coach – Beachbody Coach Scam

It takes time and hard work to make money as a Coach. Just like any business that you start and anything in life, it does take time and hard work to make money as a Coach. Hopefully you understand that by now since I think I’ve really beat this point to death already! :-)

You might fail and not make a dime. Again, I’ve mentioned this already too. You might sign up to become a Coach and months and months go by and you may not make a dime! To be quite honest and blunt though, if you don’t make a dime as a Coach, then the problem isn’t Beachbody, the problem is you! You are not taking the right action and being consistent with those actions or you’re not following the game plan set out by Beachbody, or some combination of all the above.

It costs money to be a Coach. It does cost money to become a Beachbody Coach and you may not be in the position to make that investment. Just like any business you start, there is an investment. My wife and I personally started service oriented business a few years ago (we formed an LLC, got a business license, etc.). It took us $8,000 to get it up and going. As a Beachbody Coach it will take you about $129.90 to come on board and be an active Coach. You also have 30 days from signing up that you can cancel and get all of your money back. Did my wife and I have a 30 day money back guarantee on the $8,000 we spent? Heck no!

The Positives Of Being A Beachbody Coach – Beachbody Coach Scam

It might just change your life- physically, financially, or both. For me, becoming a Beachbody Coach has not only changed me physically, but financially as well. I have gotten into the best shape of my life and have built a steady and rock solid income that my family will be able to depend on. Let’s say you come into the business and you find out you’re not ready to put the work in required to be successful with the business side of things.  That is OK! Despite that, you stick with your workouts and you get into incredible shape. You will now live a longer, happier, healthier life as a result of the programs and products. Beachbody Coach scam? I think not!

Your downline and Coach want to see you succeed. Let’s say you decided to start up a dry cleaning business. What if you walked into a local dry cleaning business in your area and you say, “Could you teach me everything you know so that I can be successful with my dry cleaning business?” They will LAUGH at you and say heck no! Why would they say that? Because they want you to FAIL! They don’t want more competition. Your downline and Coach are doing the same thing that you do, but they want you to SUCCEED!

You might just become a better person. One very integral part of the game plan that you will follow once you become a Beachbody Coach is that you will work on improving yourself as a person every single day. That means reading a good book or listening to an audio that will help you to work on your weaknesses and improve your strengths. So in the end, you just might become a much better person!

True Costs To Be a Coach – Beachbody Coach Scam

I wanted to give you a quick breakdown of the costs associated with being a Coach. If I hid these numbers from you, then yes, it would be a Beachbody Coach scam.

When You Sign Up:

  • $39.95– This pays for your Business Starter Kit, access to your Coach Online Back Office, 2 personal websites, etc. This fee is waived if you purchase one of the three Starter Packs (Shakeology Starter Pack, Shakeology Plus Fitness Starter Pack, or the Diamond Pack).
  • $89.96– For a bag of Shakeology OR this number maybe more if you get one of the other Starter Packs (Shakeology Starter Pack, Shakeology Plus Fitness Starter Pack, or the Diamond Pack).  I always recommend at the minimum that my new Coaches get on and start using Shakeology. If you have the money to buy one of the other Starter Packs instead and you want to make that investment, then I say go for it.

Total Approximate Cost When You Sign Up: $129.91 + Taxes or more if you decide to get one of the other Starter Packs.

Ongoing Costs:

  • $14.95/month starting your 2nd month as a Coach. This covers the cost to keep your Online Back Office and your 2 personal websites updated and running. It also helps cover all of the other expenses Beachbody incurs- customer service, shipping, inventory, etc.
  • $89.96/month to continue using Shakeology and to maintain your active status as a Coach. Beachbody only wants Coaches who are actively growing their business and who actively use the products (how can we get other people on the programs and products if we don’t use them ourselves? We can’t!). As such, you need to either buy or sell 50 PV (personal volume) worth of product each month. Using Shakeology will satisfy this requirement each month. Once you get established though and are consistently making sales, you can cancel your Shakeology. You may be like me though and once you start using it, you won’t want to stop!

I Have FailedThe last couple of weeks…I have FAILED! Plain and simple, I have completely failed myself and haven’t been working out like I should. So here’s what happened…Toward the end of the third week of February I started getting pretty sick. It started with a sore throat on Thursday. Then by the weekend on top of the sore throat (that was so painful at that point I didn’t want to talk or even say one word to anyone) I had a fever, cough, congestion, etc. On Sunday I decided to go to one of those Med-Express doctor offices so I could find out what was wrong with me and so I could get some meds and get back up on my feet. The doctor diagnosed me as having a throat infection and he gave me some antibiotics.

So I anxiously started taking the antibiotics and slowly but surely over the next few days I started feeling better. On Monday, it had been 4 days since I had last worked out. By about Wednesday, I’d say I was finally 100% better so that is when I should have started working out again. Well, needless to say I didn’t workout that day and the excuses started coming back. My excuse this time was that I needed to work. The last 5 days or so I hadn’t gotten much work done and I felt like I was pretty behind (I LOVE what I do and it honestly doesn’t feel like “work”…I guess you could call me a workaholic though).

Then on Thursday again I had the same excuse- “I don’t have time to spend an hour working out…I have SO MUCH work to do!” The days then continued to go by (with me making the same excuse) and it’s now Tuesday. Thankfully, my wife and I run a Fit Club locally in our area (Newport News Fitness Club) and Tuesday night is when we have our weekly cardio workout that we offer for free for everyone in the community. That night we did P90X Kenpo X and it felt so AWESOME to workout again! I felt incredible after the workout…I was so full of energy and it just felt so good! During the days I hadn’t been working out, even though I was getting a lot of work done, I felt like crap. I was groggy, tired, cranky, and just didn’t feel like myself.

So you’d think after that amazing workout I would stop making the excuses and just go back to working out daily. Nope! The excuses kept on coming (the same ole’  “I don’t have time to workout”) and now it’s Saturday and I still hadn’t worked out since Tuesday night. Saturday though is the day that I FINALLY snapped out of it! That was the day that I re-committed to set aside time for myself and to workout on a daily basis no matter what was going on. It was the day I decided to DROP all of the excuses and to just do it and re-start our P90X Insanity hybrid! Even though I LOVE what I do and helping others, I HAVE to make time for me so that I can continue to stay fit so that I live a very long, happy, healthy life.

stop making excusesWhat exactly snapped me out of the the excuses that I was making and made me want to re-commit to my fitness plan? Well, it was a combination of things. The first thing, is I’m a Beachbody Coach. I’m a Coach full time and I spend my time helping others get healthy and fit and financially fit as well. What kind of Coach would I be if I didn’t workout myself? In order to be a TRUE Coach I have to lead by example. Another thing that helped me to snap out of it is my wife Jen. After days and days of hearing her nag me to workout and telling me that I’ve been a total slacker lately I finally gave in and took some time to reflect on my lack of workouts during the past few weeks. Lastly, before I started my journey to go from a lazy bum to actually caring about my fitness and health I had taken my before pictures before I started P90X for the first time. A quick glance at those really helped to light a fire under me and showed me what I DO NOT want to go back to.

So I failed! But you know what? I’m human just like you :-) and I will fail occasionally and make the lame excuses, skip workouts, deviate from my healthy eating plan, etc. Everyone will fail from time to time, but the important thing is what you do AFTER you fail. Do you say to yourself-
[quote]Aww man, I suck as a person, I’m a failure, so since I’m a failure I’m just going go back to my old habits[/quote] OR do you pick yourself back up and do what it takes to get back on track? Obviously the latter is the right thing to do after you fail yourself. So I want to end this post with a few tips and suggestions on some things you can do to not only help prevent failure, but things that will help you to snap out of it and to pick yourself back up when you do fail (it is inevitable that you will fail)-

This post is part of a 2 part series where I tell all that happened when my wife and I got to workout with the man behind P90X, Tony Horton. In case you missed the first post, here is the link to it- Tony Horton.

So the workout continues…

We did a workout where we worked our upper, middle, and lower muscles; it’s a UML workout as Tony Horton likes to call it. One of the leg workouts that I can remember that we did was the Mary Katherine. Tony Horton introduced the exercise as an “Old friend that he is very close to. Her name was Mary…Mary Katherine.” Of course we had to take it up a notch so we did about 50 or so reps. He also started talking about another old friend that he was very close too. His name was “Fifer, Fifer Scissor.” With the Fifer Scissor instead of leaning back as you typically do in P90X, Tony Horton had us sit up (in a V position) with our arms forward as we did the Fifer Scissor. It was freaking painful, but I make sure to BRING IT and I did it without stopping.

Tony HortonAnother ab workout that we did that was from P90X was the Oblique V-Up. During the Oblique V-Up when your legs and torso are up, Tony Horton had us hold that in the up position for about 5 seconds or so every rep! By the time we got to that exercise my abs were killing me, but I wasn’t about to stop or let Tony Horton see me rest. We then eventually made it to the last exercise and we of course had to finish off strong!!! Tony Horton started talking about one more good friend that he has. His name was “Mason….Mason Twist.” He told us that we were going to have a Mason Twist Twist off. We were going to do the Mason Twist exercise but we would go as long as we could go. Once we stopped or our feet hit the floor we were supposed to stand up and cheer on whoever was left.

That was an incredible moment because as people started standing up to cheer the remaining people on, the room was filled with an enormous amount of excitement for those who where still going. There ended up being 2 people left, a guy and a girl. They both were killing it and I think they finally stopped about 4 minutes or so after we started-


We finished the main workout and then we did a stretch and a little yoga. The yoga was nothing like Yoga X, we just did some light moves to cool down and we finished off in the Shavasana (Corpse Pose). While we were in the Corpse Pose, Tony Horton had us all do Oms (I think that’s how you spell it) together as group. Doing Oms with over 300 people was a little disturbing! :-) We were all on different keys so it sounded pretty bad and Tony Horton made fun of us for that. Lastly, Tony Horton had us do a Primal Scream (I think that’s what he called it). He told us all to yell as LOUD as we could at the same time while we were in the Corpse Pose. We did that twice and it was surprisingly very liberating!

So the workout was over, but it was now time for us to meet and shake hands with Tony Horton. Everyone quickly rushed to grab their things and we all lined up. Luckily, I had Jen there with me so we tag teamed it and I grabbed our stuff while Jen got in line. We were pretty far up in the line so before we knew it we were on stage shaking hands with Tony Horton, snapping photos, and getting our books signed. It all happened so quick and as soon as we met Tony Horton we were leaving the hotel. Despite it happening so quickly, getting a chance to shake hands and say a few words with the man himself was an awesome experience and something that Jen and I will carry with us for a long time!

We are now looking forward to June because we’ll likely be working out with Tony Horton again! :-) In June we’ll be flying out to California for the Beachbody Coach Summit. That is where Beachbody Coaches nationwide come together for training, awards, etc. for about 4 days. During the Beachbody Coach Summit we will get a chance to workout with ALL of the Beachbody trainers in what they call a “Super Workout.” The Super Workout is when all of the trainers are together on 1 stage and they lead a workout together (Tony Horton, Shaun T, Chalene Johnson, Debbie Siebers, Brett Hoebel, etc.).

Jen (my wife) and I got a chance to workout with the MAN himself, Tony Horton several weeks ago in Arlington, VA. I wanted to tell everyone about that experience and share some pictures and videos. First, it was an INCREDIBLE, EXCITING, and MEMORABLE experience! Jen and I were so excited to meet Tony Horton that we made sure to leave extra early in the morning so that we would be first in line…We left our home at 4:30am to be exact! :-) We ended up getting there a little too early (at about 7:30am), but in the end getting there at that time paid off-


tony horton workoutOnce we got to the hotel we discovered (as you saw in the video) that we were in fact the first people there! The doors to the room where we would be working out with Tony Horton weren’t supposed to open until 9:15am. We got there so early that they hadn’t even closed the doors yet! :-) Jen gave me a hard time about it and was making fun of me because I made us leave so early, but I knew she would thank me later!

So we just hung out, snapped some photos, and met some really awesome people before the workout with Tony Horton. We ended up meeting an incredible lady who was just as hardcore about P90X and Tony Horton as we were! It just so happened that she lived pretty close to us so we hung out with her and had some awesome conversation. I guess it was fate that we met her because she ended up joining our team and is now a Beachbody Coach herself and is helping us end the trend of obesity.

The doors to the room where we would be working out with Tony Horton finally opened and we rushed in like little kids running into a toy store. A very large crowd had gathered outside of that room, but since we were first at the hotel we were in the front and one of the first people to go into the room. We immediately laid down our towels and claimed our real estate in the very front of the room directly in front of the stage where Tony Horton would be leading the workout.

We anxiously and excitedly waited for Tony Horton’s entrance and for the workout to start. I continued to snap photos, and as time kept passing by, the room kept getting fuller and fuller of people (over 300 people)….

So the moment we had been waiting for finally arrived!! They turned on some exciting music, and introduced Tony Horton and we waited….and waited. They had directed our attention to one door, but then Tony Horton finally appeared out of a different door and the crowd was cheering and yelling with excitement (I was one of them; I was screaming like a little school girl :-))! He made his entrance and slowly made his way up to the stage. When he was finally on stage it all started to hit me that I was about to workout with Tony Horton. This guy who has invaded my living room day in and day out for the past year….this guy who has changed my life, my wife’s life and thousands and thousands of other people was directly in front of me and I was going to get to workout with him in person! Needless to say I was pretty darn ecstatic!

I kept snapping pictures like crazy and the workout began! Tony Horton told us that we would be doing some new moves that will be in P90X MC2, which is basically the next P90X. I honestly was a little nervous about the workout starting because we were literally right in front of Tony Horton. We were probably about 5 to 8 feet from him and I could see him looking at me while we were doing the warm up and as we started the exercises. That made me even more nervous because I didn’t want Tony Horton to see me screw up an exercise or drop out because I was too tired.

I quickly forgot about being nervous and the excitement of working out with him took over my emotions and I was giving my all to the exercises. I won’t lie to you…they were tough! Tony Horton took us through some new exercises, but we also did some familiar moves from P90X…HOWEVER, since these exercises will be in P90X:MC2 they were taken up a notch. Check out this new move that we had to do-


What did you think of that move? In typical Tony Horton fashion he was joking with us and we really weren’t going to do a move like that. He was just showing off! I can’t blame him though because if I was in my 50’s and I was in that good of shape, you can better believe I’d be showing off! Speaking of Tony Horton joking around…People have kept asking me how does Tony Horton act in person? Well, he acts the same exact way as he does in the P90X videos! He is his same goofy, fun, but very helpful and passionate self.

Today is day 47 of the Insanity workout and I’ve finally set aside some time to post an update on my progress! It’s been an INCREDIBLE journey with Insanity. Did I say it’s been INCREDIBLE? Because it has! :-) Insanity has pushed me to the limits and right up to that edge which has allowed me to get great workouts. It has honestly been the hardest cardio that I’ve ever done in my life! During the workouts I get to breathing so hard and so deep (am I’m still talking about Insanity here?! :-) Just kidding…) that I HAVE to stop to take a second to catch my breath. I’ve never felt or experienced this kind of deep breathing before.

My wife and I have been doing the Insanity workout now for the past 2 weeks, and I’ve done a bad job of updating my blog on our progress so sorry about that! We started Insanity on November 7th, 2010 and today is day 17 of our journey with the program! That means we are already halfway done month 1 of Insanity which is crazy to think!

I was honestly very nervous and scared going into this program. Insanity is focused around cardio, and jump training (similar to P90X Plyometrics), and I struggle with cardio activities so I knew this program would be a challenge (which is exactly what I wanted). Oh and this program has been billed as the toughest program that Beachbody has ever put on DVD so I think that would make anyone nervous! :-)

Despite us only being on week 3 of the program, I was extremely excited, and surprised by our results so far with the program! I made a video yesterday where I re-cap our Insanity results…Check it out!

p90x motivationIt is inevitable that you will have days during your P90X workout that you won’t have much motivation to workout. When you don’t have much motivation to workout, it’s easy to start making excuses on why you can’t or shouldn’t workout. These excuses could ultimately lead to you skipping your workout or giving less than 100% effort. When you’re feeling less than enthusiastic to do your P90X workout, try the below to get you pumped and excited for your workout!

1) Look at your Before Pictures. Pull out your before pictures and take a look at them. That is where you’ve come from, and what you don’t want to go back to.  As hard as it is to make the lifestyle change you’ve made with P90X, it is so extremely easy to step backwards and go back into your old habits. Don’t let today be the day you are going to step back to your old self. Commit to giving today’s workout 110% and do it now. Sometimes just looking at your before pictures may be enough to keep you motivated. It may be a good idea to post your before pictures somewhere you will see them every day.

2) Think about your “Why” for doing P90X. Why exactly did you start P90X in the first place? Was it to lose weight, tone up, or build muscles? What will losing those extra pounds, toning up, or bulking up do for your health? Think about the reasons you originally made the commitment to do P90X. Re-commit to accomplishing your P90X goals.

3) Find a partner to workout with in your home or to workout with virtually. On the days where I had very little motivation to workout, I’d get my wife to workout with me. Workout with your spouse, or get a friend to workout with you. If you like to compete, make the workout a fun competition to see who can do more reps, more weight, etc. Sign up for a free Beachbody account and join a virtual workout group in the WOWY SuperGym. There are thousands and thousands of people on the same P90X journey you are on who are working out daily in the WOWY SuperGym. Connecting with others online at TeamBeachbody is an easy way stay motivated and to be held accountable for your workouts.

4) Try working out first thing in the morning. Working out in the evenings may be more convenient for your schedule, but you may also be more likely to skip your workouts.  Being too tired, or too busy with other things are just a few excuses that are easy to make when working out in the evenings. Try getting up earlier so you can do your workouts first thing in the morning. Make it part of your daily morning routine.

Shakeology DiscountI briefly mentioned a way to get a discount on Shakeology in my Shakeology Review post and I wanted to go a little more in depth on it.
