P90X2 - It's Coming!

P90X2 – It’s COMING! P90X2 is expected to be coming out in December 2011 and this is the official P90X sequel! I don’t know about you, but I’m so freakin excited about P90X 2. I’ve been doing the original P90X and P90X Plus workouts for over a year now, and I want MORE! Since I’m a Beachbody Coach I was able to get a sneak peak of P90X2 last week at the Beachbody Coach Summit in downtown Los Angeles. I got to see Tony Horton interviewed by Carl Daikeler on what the P90X sequel is going to be all about. Keep reading because I will be sharing all of the inside secrets on P90X2 that I learned on this page, and I’ll let you know how you can be the first to get your hands on a copy of the program.

Official P90X2 Trailer

So I figured it would be best if I started this post out with a video preview of P90X 2. Watch out for in the beginning where you see Tony Horton doing push ups on THREE medicine balls!

So what do you think? :-) Go ahead and scroll all the way to the bottom of this post and leave a comment and let me know what you think of P90X2. Then come back up to this part of the page and keep on reading!

P90X2 Interview With The Man Himself, Tony Horton

At the Beachbody Coach Summit Carl Daikeler did an interview with Tony Horton and they literally went through each of the workout DVD’s that will be in P90X 2. They gave a summary of each workout and they showed us clips from the actual DVD’s. I was able to record a majority of the interview and it was very, very interesting. I’m not even sure if I should post the video, but I’ll go ahead and give you a sneak peak at the workouts-

P90X 2In the above video Tony Horton and Carl Daikeler go into the Shoulders and Arms workout, Base & Back workout, and they also discuss why there isn’t any cardio in P90X2. Towards the end of the video they also start discussing PAP (Post Activation Potentiation). The Shoulders & Arms P90X 2 workout looks totally insane (in a good way)! Did you see all of the balls again? Using the medicine balls during the workouts are going to take this workout program to the next level. By using the medicine balls you will help increase the strength of your core, increase your stability, and coordination.

You might be thinking, “Awww man, that just means I need to buy more equipment for P90X2.” During the workouts they have made sure to have someone doing a modified version of the moves so you can still do the program even if you don’t have any medicine balls. They even went so far as saying that they made P90X 2 so that if you are traveling on a business trip or on vacation, all you will need is your resistance bands and the P90X2 DVD’s.

Wait – Did You Say There’s No Cardio In P90X2?

There is cardio in P90X2, but there are no specific cardio workouts like in P90X (Kenpo X, Plyometrics, etc). The exercises within the workouts are all high interval workout routines where your heart rate is going up and down, up and down. So you are still going to most definitely get a good cardio workout with the different P90X2 workouts. Since most athletes aren’t running for 30 minutes straight (unless you’re a long distance runner) they decided to focus on creating moves that are fast and furious so that you get a full body workout. If you do just so happen to be a long distance runner, then the easy solution is to modify P90X2 so that you are incorporating running or some other higher intensity cardio workouts into the program.

Exciting Things In P90X 2

P90X Part 2

P90X Part 2

Here are some of the exciting highlights of P90X2 which I think will make it my next favorite workout program-

  • Instead of you working out six days a week, you’ll be working out FIVE days a week (just looking at the trailer I think we’ll definitely need those 2 days of rest).
  • The Yoga in P90X2 is only 65 minutes long versus the 1 hour and 15 minutes or so in the original P90X.
  • You can travel anywhere with P90X2; just throw your resistance bands and your DVD’s in your suit case and you’re good to go!
  • There aren’t any exclusive cardio workouts in the program (I’ve never been a cardio fanatic).*

  1. Do you have a list of the workouts for P90X2 yet ?

    • I don’t have a list of the P90X2 workouts just yet, but as soon as I find them out, I’ll definitely list them all here.

  2. Found this listing:(12) workouts.

    X2 Core

    - Next Level of Core Synergistics

    - Adds Plyo moves with core movements.

    Plyocide

    - More focus on lateral movements than in P90X which was more about jumping in one spot.

    - Also works on higher vertical movements

    X2 Recovery + Mobility

    - An entire workout dedicated to recovery shows the importance of this in the program.

    - This is not just about stretching.

    X2 Total Body

    - Just as it sounds. Example moves are “One-Armed Bicep Curl while in Warrior 3″, “Pull-Ups where your whole body is a crunch”, and “Plyometric Push-Ups on a Stability Ball”. FUN!

    X2 Ab Ripper

    - Fifer Scissors with an added toe touch! (Tony did this one in his workout with us.)

    - Some of the other moves I recognized from ARX2 from P90X 1-on-1, Volume 3, like the Abronome!

    X2 Yoga

    - X2 takes a back to basics approach with a focus on constant flow. For example, standing balance moves are out and the warm-up is shorter.

    - It condenses the very best of the best and is 65 minutes long. (I know many of you will be smiling!)

    Balance & Power

    - This workout adds balance components to strength components. I cant even describe the moves, you have to watch the video. They are wicked cool! LOL

    Chest, Back, and Balance

    - Many of the moves looked very similar to Chest, Back, and Balls from the P90X 1-on-1, Volume 3.

    - 3-Ball Plyo Push-Ups, Levers, 4-Ball Push-Ups, etc

    X2 Shoulders & Arms

    - Shoulders are the link to everything in the upper body.

    - The video was showing Pike Presses on 2 balls while your feet are elevated. Lying Tricep Extensions on a Stability Ball. Again, unstable surfaces will be the norm for P90X2

    Base + Back

    - Plyo moves and Pull-Ups in one workout. Again, some similarity from the P90X 1-on-1, Volume 3

    • Nice!! Thanks for posting the P90X2 workouts Lenny! As I get more updates from Team Beachbody, I’ll make sure to update the P90X2 info in the blog post. Have a great day buddy and thanks again!

  3. Just started p90x classic. Lean was interesting given my 60
    Years. So far, so good.

    • You’re 60 years young John? GREAT JOB!! That says a lot about YOU as a person to be taking on P90X. Tony Horton is 53 years old so he’s not far behind you! :-) What day are you on with P90X, and what kind of goals are you trying to accomplish?

      • I’ve been doing P90x for 2 1/2 years, 4 days a week. I’m stronger than most men my age. Love it, need it, and must do it. Don’t sit, be fit.

        • NICE job!! Sounds like you’re addicted to P90X as I am! :-) Keep BRINGING IT!!

  4. Im so excited for P90X 2. Cant wait!!! Ive done P90X twice already and love it. Im 31 and type 1 diabetic and becouse of this program I have cut back on my meds and my sugar levels are more stable other than fluxuating all the time. Im also alot heathier and in the best shape of my life. I can truly say that P90X is not just a program for me, its a lifstyle! I cant wait to “BRING IT” on P90X2! Mind over matter. GOD BLESS

    • Wow!! CONGRATS on your results buddy! You sound like you’re just as excited about it as I am!!! :-) What’s your favorite P90X workout?

Also, I’m always looking for select, motivated, positive, and driven people to join our team to help end the trend of obesity with P90X and their other products. If you’re open to taking a look at that, then go here to learn more- http://trek2befit.com/go/sf

    • Dave thats awsome. I am 25 and have been type 1 diabetic for 6 years. Just finished P90X and went to my Doctor to get my blood tests done and she said my numbers were the best they had ever been and whatever I have been doing to keep doing it. I started Shakeology about 7 weeks ago and my BS levels have been so easy to control.

      • That’s freakin awesome!!! I need all the skeptics to read your comment! :-)

  5. Hi, I found the updated video list and thought I would post if for you guys sinve someone asked about it. I saw that someone posted a list, but this one includes some more videos and a correction to thoe old list.
    1. Recovery and Mobility -Workout emphasizing not only stretching but also the importance of recovery.
    2. Chest, Back & Balance -Moves Taken from P90X 1 on 1 vol 3. Exercises include 3-ball plyo push ups, and 4-ball push ups.
    3. P.A.P. Upper -Post Activation Potentiation (Upper Body)
    4. P.A.P. Lower -Post Activation Potentiation (Lower Body)
    5. Plyocide -P90X was about vertical jumps. X2 is about vertical (up & down) and lateral (side to side) moves.
    6. Base & Back -A combination of plyo and pullups. In Tony’s words the “Mother of all workouts.”
    7. Balance & Power -A combination of balance components to strength components. An extremely unique combo.
    8. Yoga -A constant flow approach to yoga, eliminating the standing balance moves with a shortened warm-up.
    9. Ab Ripper -Fifer Scissors with a twist! Other moves from P90X 1-on-1, vol. 3, like the Abronome!
    10. Total Body -Example moves like One-Armed Bicep Curl while in Warrior 3, Pull-Ups in a crunch position, and Plyo Push-Ups using a balance ball.
    11. Shoulders & Arms -Moves like Pike presses on 2 balls with feet elevated, using instability to improve strength.
    12. X2 Core -An intense blend of plyo moves and core exercises. The Next Level of Core Synergistics.
    13. V Sculpt -V-Sculpt is going to be a Back/Bicep killer. *Only available in the Deluxe & Ultimate kits
    14. X2 Chest, Shoulder & Tri -Similar to P90X with different sequences and exercises. *Only available in the Deluxe & Ultimate kits

    • Awesome Thomas! Thanks for posting this buddy! Pre-orders actually start September 1st, so that’s in less then a week!

  6. Hey, how goes it, I’m a 29 year old guy from northern Ireland, I’m just wondering if the program is suitable for beginners? I havn’t been working out for at least a year but just dont fancy joining the gym again, anyway… Any advice would be great, many thanks

    • P90X2 is definitely NOT a workout for beginners. P90X 2 is for people who have already done the original P90X or Insanity. I’d highly, highly recommend doing P90X first and them moving onto P90X2.

      • How about if you have finished the program but did not see results (i.e. have not done the program consecutively but finished it). I have also finished a Kettle Bell workout series at least twice. Do you think I can benefit/am suitable to start p90x2?

        • If you’ve done P90X, and you’ve done a Kettle Bell series, then more then likely you are ready for P90X2. However, if I were you, I’d figure out why I didn’t get results so I could do what needs to be done to get the results I want. If you didn’t get results and you followed the workout schedule like you should, you gave the workouts 100%, then usually it comes down to your nutrition.

          I hope that helps Ed!

  7. Anyone know how long each video is?

    • I don’t know the length of the P90X2 videos yet. I’ll definitely post it on either this P90X 2 post or another one so make sure you subscribe to get the updates.

  8. In the trailer it seems like he is focusing more on functional strength/mobility than strength/size. Is this sort of how it’s gonna go down this time, with the moves beeing less adaptable to size-oriented training?

    • You’ll be able to add size with P90X2. I plan on doing exactly that with the program and will be tracking my progress in detail here on my blog.

  9. I’ve been doing P90X for 2 years and 3 months – I am absolutely addicted to it! – I’m 51 years old, and very tempted to go for the P90X2

Some of the advanced moves of P90X, like the clap push ups I cannot quite master (have to do it on the knees), and the crane (yoga) doesn’t agree with my wrists – but overall I think I “might” be ready for the sequel…

    • DO IT! :-) If you’ve been doing P90X that long then I’m sure you’ll be fine with P90X2! Tony Horton is 53 or 54 years old! They’ll be doing modified moves of everything like the original P90X so I think you should be fine. Even if you can’t do those moves you could modify further or just do the best you can.

Also, CONGRATS for sticking with P90X! What kind of results have you seen with the program?

      • Well, guess what? I am pre-ordering the system today! I will go for it, you are absolutely right, even if I cannot do the real advanced moves, it will still be fun and worth it

You asked me what kinds of results I’ve had with P90X. Well, I was in pretty good shape before starting it, but all I did for fitness was running – I trained for 3 marathons, but only completed one, I love long distance running, but my left knee does not ;-)

So, since I had to keep my running at a 5 to 10 mile range, I decided to do the P90X.

My upper body changed A LOT, I’ve got good muscle definition in the upper arms, shoulders, and back. My abdominal region improved quite a bit too. I’d say the legs did not change that much, but as I said, the running kept them reasonably good, I’ve been running for 13 years.

Overall, I think I’m ready for the challenge of the P90X2. It is exciting to have something to look forward to, and I will do my best, and forget the rest!

        Let’s bring it! ;-)

        • That’s awesome Sally! You’re going to love it! I’m hoping to get together a pretty big group of people who start P90X2 at the same time in January so hopefully you can take part in that.

My wife LOVES running as well and does the half marathons. Sounds like you’ve had some awesome results with the program, so congrats!! P90X2 will definitely be a challenge, but it will be a lot of fun. I hope you have an awesome week and don’t ever hesitate to reach out if you need advice, have questions, etc.

  10. I am so pumped for p90x2!! I am a junior in hs and consider myself in very good shape.I’ve done p90x 2 times and insanity once. Im 5 11 175 with 6% body fat. I’m hopeing this takes me to the next level!

    • Awesome buddy! Keep doing P90X and stick with it! It will help you prep and get ready for P90X2! Hope you have a GREAT afternoon buddy! BRING IT!

  11. One question…i have one medicine ball. How many more will I need? And will it come with p90x2 or will I have to buy it elsewhere ?

    • You’ll need 2 medicine balls for P90X2. So you’re halfway there! :-) There is actually a P90X2 package that comes with the 2 medicine balls. You can check them out here-
      http://trek2befit.com/go/p90x2packages

Man, December can’t come soon enough! :-)

  12. I thought you needed 4?

    • You can definitely go for 4, but it isn’t required. That’s the extreme version! :-) I’ll probably be sticking with just the 2 in the beginning and go from there.

  13. will the p90x2 get my body fat down and get me ripped

    • It definitely should…But you really need to do P90X first before doing P90X2. Otherwise you’re going to really struggle with P90X2.

  14. HI, Do you know yet how long each of the videos are on the P90x2?

    • I don’t know any exact times, but I’ve heard that the P90X2 workouts are about the same length as P90X, but there are some workouts that are shorter then the original P90X.

  15. I have huge wrist issues with push ups. I can only do them on my knuckles or on a push up bar. Or any way that keeps my wrist locked straight. I am planning on getting the medicine balls for p90x2, but am worried that my wrists will not be able to handle that position. I’ve gone the P90X 3 times now and still can’t take the abuse on my wrists. Any idea what I could do? Thanks

    Scott

    • Yea I use the push up bars too. I would think that since you are elevated with the medicine balls it may not be so bad, but I’m not sure. It is a different hand position and it’s going to take a lot more balance so it may give you and I both some pain, but maybe not. I think your best bet is to just hold onto your push up bars, and if worse comes to worse you could just use them. I’m also sure Tony Horton will give us some modified versions of those.

CONGRATS on going with P90X 3 times!! What kind of results have you seen with the program?

  16. Do you know the 5-day workout rotation? Is it the same M-Su or does it rotate 1-7 and vary depending on where you are in the Phase? Just curious, the 6-day rotation with P90X worked out very well for me and if I need to change my on/off days each week I’ll just need to adjust my schedule.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    • No, I don’t know the schedule yet. As soon as I get my copy of P90X2 I’ll be doing a separate blog post on the P90X2 workout schedule, so stay tuned! It started shipping this week so hopefully in the next few weeks I should have P90X2.

How long have you been doing P90X Chris?

  17. Two and a half years. I mix it with weight lifting, running, swimming, biking, and other activities. It’s the best workout program I’ve ever done. I’m hoping P90X2 is even better. A change will be welcome and I hope it’s a butt kicker!

    • Nice!! Yea I’ve been doing the program myself for about the same time, so having a change will be really nice!! You’ll have to let me know when you get your P90X2!!

  18. Hi there really enjoyed reading your blog and like all you guys I’m pumped about p90x2. I’ve done p90x and now I’m just using it as filler as well as going to the gym while waiting for p90x2.im looking forward to seeing your progress on the sequel. Any my results on p90x were better than anything I’ve ever done on my own. I’m a believer. However I still can’t seem to committ yo buy shakeology. Seems kinda pricey since my wife is still going to school.

    • Thanks for the kind words Amar! Yea I’m so freakin anxious to start! :-) I’ll be on a mission to become the hulk with P90X2 so I can’t wait to see how it goes.

As far as the Shakeology, while it isn’t cheap…a lot of times you get what you pay for. I personally use it every day, my wife uses it everyday, and I recommend it to all my close family & friends. You’re more then then welcome to check out this post if you want more insight into the price and my experience with it- Shakeology Reviews.

By the way, what kind of results are you looking to get with P90X2?

  19. My goal with p90x2 would be to get more ripped and be able to perform better playing hockey. It would be nice to put on a little muscle as well. But I’m not sure what kind if diet that would be. I’m guessing it’ll be like a fat shredder phase for a bit, with high protein. But overall I just want to be stronger, faster, and high endurance. I know I can get there with what I’m seeing on the previews. It won’t be easy though!! That’s why I’m pumping myself up!

    • Yea it’s not going to be easy….but to get extreme results you have to do something extreme like P90X2!!!! :-) P90X2 will be an awesome program for you especially since you’re trying to improve your performance with hockey.

      BRING IT!!!!

  20. hey great site jonathan and nice job working hard to get into great shape! I did p90x a couple years ago with great results then basically took a year off from working out all together. I started working out again about a year ago and finished p90x again in july. I have worked out sparingly since and lost some strength and stamina in the past few months. do you think I should jump into p90x2?

    • Thanks buddy! It sounds like you’re not too out of shape, so I would say you probably would be good to go for P90X2. You could always start P90X2, and then if you find during the first week that it’s too tough for you, then you could maybe do a few weeks (or even a month) of P90X. I’m recently did Month 1 of P90X, and now that we’re in December I’m doing Month 3 of P90X to prep myself for P90X2.

Let me know what you end up doing! BRING IT!!!

  21. GOT MINE YESTERDAY!!!!

    P90X2!!!!

Did the first workout this morning, not sure yet what to think of it, it’s different, I would not say it was harder than my first day on P90X, but there were some pretty challenging moves….

    So exciting!

    • If there was a Like button I’d been hitting it like crazy on your comment! :-) CONGRATS! That is awesome! I should actually get mine here in the next couple of hours…I’m going to crack it open and do the Yoga as my workout for the day.

I feel like a kid again at Christmas! :-) It’s very very exciting!

      • Oh, you go for the yoga! I almost did that, but decided to follow the schedule (I am SUCH a boring person! ;-)

Tomorrow, if I’m not too destroyed, I’ll do the Plyocide.

Good luck, Jonathan, have fun and I hope it gets there in time for you to dive right into it!

        • It came too late yesterday so wasn’t able to do the Yoga…BUT it did come! :-) Today I’m going to try Ab Ripper X 2. I’m officially going to start P90X2 January 1, but I’m going to some of the P90X2 workouts here and there to attempt to try get the form down on the moves.

So you’ve already officially started a round of P90X2?

  22. I’m a little afraid to answer with a YES, because at first I wanted to do just a mix of P90X and P90X2

Now I am tempted to go for it.. I think what I’ll do is complete a full week of Phase 1 and then decide – the problem is that I love so many of the routines of the P90X, I hate to say goodbye to them. Not quite sure what to do…. :-(

    • It’s not goodbye forever though…just for a little while! Go for it! Do it do it! No peer pressure! :-) JK…That sounds like a good idea to do a full week of the Phase 1 workouts.

For me personally, I get frustrated easily when doing new workouts and trying to learn new moves (I was incredibly frustrated during my first week of P90X). I’m sure I’ll be the same during P90X2, but once I get the moves down it’s a lot more fun.

Let me know what you end doing. BRING IT!!

  23. Hi, I as well am looking forward to the wk outs…starting tomorrow….am I missing something or where are the wk out logs….sheets

    • Go here to download the P90X2 worksheets (at the end of the blog post)- P90X2 Workout Schedule. Let me know how your first workout goes Bob!!! BRING IT!

  24. I’m sorry but it shows the workout schedule…not the sheets….. why didnt they come in the kit ?

    • They are there Bob. There’s 12 pages in that PDF. The P90X2 workout sheets are after the schedule.

  25. Seems like you are busy now that everyone has their order haha :)

I got the 2 extra DVD with my p90x2 set… the V sculpt and x2chest+shoulder+tries.

Found you on a google search, but I am not sure how to incorporate these additional DVDs into my workout. According to the schedule, you only use these DVDs in phase 2, is that correct? Than I am lost… do we substitute these DVDs for the original or do we do these in addition to the original.

    • Yea we’ve got a lot of people staring P90X2 (including myself)! I’m super excited!

Yep that’s correct! Check out this blog post I put together since I walk you through the P90X2 schedule. There’s a video on the page where I talk about how you incorporate the 2 extra workouts- P90X2 Workout Schedule

  26. Been doing P90X for 6 yrs and I am disappointed with this so far – only through foundation but already looking forward to going back to the original especially in yoga, plyo (i would like to know why no one is wearing the heart rate monitor – must have been a lawsuit or two) and Abs.

    • Why are you disappointed Brian? Not sure I’m following you in regards to what you said about the heart rate monitor.

P90X2 incorporates a lot of changes then what’s in the original P90X. It incorporates the latest in sports science and isn’t meant to be exactly like the original. For me, and a lot of people…we resist change and don’t enjoy it. However, change isn’t necessarily a bad thing and I think with P90X2 it’s a positive thing that will help those willing to embrace it. Just do the best you can and stay positive…Once you get through a full round of P90X2 you can always blend the 2 programs together to get the results you want.

By the way…when you get to the Strength phase you may enjoy it more since it is structured similar to the original P90X.

  27. Jonathan, I am not sure about Brian’s reasons to be disappointed, but it is quite a different set up of the system. I would not say I’m disappointed, but one thing I have a hard time with is the fact that all tapes in phase 1 involve the exact same warm up routine. And the foam roller thing, which for people who are busy and need to optimize their time for exercise seems like a waste of time. NOW, keep in mind, I do know the deep tissue massage is a positive thing and might prevent injury, but I think it could have been moved to the end of the tape and kept as an optional goodie. Just my opinion, of course. I find myself fast forwarding that part and moving on.

I completed two weeks of the first phase, but did one Kenpo in one of the off days, and used ab ripperX instead of ab ripper Xs in one of the weeks.

I will go on and see where it takes me, I have to say the second week I enjoyed more than the first… :-)

    • Yea the whole foam rolling thing is brand new to me…Still trying to learn how to use it properly. CONGRATS for completing 2 weeks of the first Phase already! Yea I’m think I will probably do the same thing and switch between ARX2 and the original ARX. I’ll probably do the same thing with Plyometrics just to things exciting.

I think as we learn the moves we’re going to continue enjoying the workouts more and more. BRING IT!!! Keep us updated on your progress Sally!

  28. Hi, I’m on X2 Yoga of phase one and I’ve gotta say that the only thing I’m dissappointed in is the fact that I had to drop my weight to do alot of the balance moves. Doing stuff on one leg and on a stability ball is harder than I thought. The X2 workouts are awesome though. I have been preparing myself for X2 by doing the strength portion of the vol 3 one on one dvds, like v sculpt and legs & balance. So I wasnt really prepared for the stability ball workouts. I actually fell off of it while doing the 1 Arm Chest Press, haha!

    • lol…Yea I’ve fallen off a few times myself! The workouts are tough and it’s a big change, but I’m lovin it too. Great job Thomas! Keep pushing play and keep us updated on your progress with P90X2!

  29. Hi Jonathan. Great blog. I am looking for the length of each workout series for p90x2. Do you have that information yet?

    • I didn’t see the times listed in the P90X2 Fitness Guide…however from doing the workouts in the first Phase they all are around 60 minutes (Ab Ripper X 2 is 15 minutes). Hope that helps Paula!

  30. It does, thanks so much!

  31. So I am almost 50 and have just done two rounds of p90x P90x2 going to help me get bigger and in better shape? Pretty happy with results after p90x
