P90X Day 19 Completed: P90X Legs and Back, Ab Ripper X
I just completed day 19 of my P90X workout! Today was P90X Legs and Back and Ab Ripper X. I did my workouts earlier then usual because we are upgrading to a new computer (should come late this afternoon), and I’m sure I’ll be spending most of my time this evening setting it up. We have an old Compaq that is about 9 years old and it’s really hard to get anything done on it since it’s so slow.
Legs and Back went a lot better today when compared to P90X Day 12. Instead of wimping out of the leg exercises, I really tried to bring it and do the exercises the best I could. The Wall Squats were very painful, but I was able to push through those. The leg exercise that really killed me was the 80/20 Cyber-Speed Squats (one of the last exercises). I wasn’t able to do all of the reps, but I tried to get as far as I could. I also paused the P90X DVD several times during the workout for extended breaks, but I really think I did a lot better this week. I think my legs are definitely going to be sore tomorrow because it’s been painful to go up and down the stairs in our home.
For the pull ups, I was able to add 1-2 reps again to each of the different pull up exercises. Since it will be a week or so before I do any pull ups again, I really wanted to do as many as I could. Towards the end of the workout though, I was really starting to get tired so I would do my pull ups, hang on the P90X Pull Up Bar for a little bit, then I would pump out a few more reps.
Ab Ripper X went great today! I was able to get through all of the reps with the Fifer Scissor and the Mason Twist exercises again. Also, today I only took 2 breaks versus the 3 that I usually take!! I’ve really gotten the hang of Ab Ripper X. The next step is for me to really push to do the harder versions of the exercises. I’m finding that my abs haven’t been as sore the next day as usual, so I really need to push my intensity up so I can get those ripped abs that I want!
Nutrition for today-
Breakfast: Bowl of Fiber One cereal, and a protein shake.
Mid-Morning: P90X Recovery drink after P90X Legs and Back and Ab Ripper X.
Lunch: Peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich (it was made with splenda, so no sugar). Also had a protein shake.
Mid-Afternoon: Protein shake or maybe a smoothie if I have time.
Dinner: I think tonight, we are going to have some homemade chili. We’ll be using lean turkey instead of beef.
After-Dinner: Protein shake.

I am a terrible person. I completely skipped Yoga yesterday. I plan on making myself pay for it by working even harder today during Legs and Back.
It really sounds like you are making progress. Glad to hear it! I wish I was seeing the same results you were in the pull ups. I feel like I havent improved one bitin that catergory.
Well, back to pretending like I’m working(at work right now). In reality I’m just waiting for the clock to roll around so I can get my workout in.
It happens! The only thing you can do like you said is push really hard today to make up for it. Yoga X is important, but I don’t think missing once will set you back any.
I appreciate it! I had a hard time pushing them out today, but I did it. You will get there with the push ups!!! It just takes time. Just do your best!
I’m sure you’re off from work by now, but I understand how you feel watchin the clock!!!
Brad, your not terrible. I mean, if you skipped it because your lazy, then you are an awful awful person! :) j/k
Nah, last week I had a time crunch and couldn’t do it. This morning, I did about 70 minutes of it but had to stop because of an appointment.
Jonathan,
Would you be willing to post your actual results (weights and reps) . Would love to know how many pullups your doing and what kind of weight you are using. I think that would be a great addition to your blog.
Yea, I thought about doing that, but decided against it mainly to save time. I might at the end of P90X or maybe on a monthly basis put up some type of summary of # reps I’ve gone up, amount of weight, etc.
Eh, well it doesn’t really take that much time.
I have my little notebook and when I am done with a session, I jot it down.
I have a simple table I created in my first post…and I pretty much replicate that when making a new entry. I can email you the html table and all you have to do is insert your numbers if you want
I appreciate the help! I still though think for now I’m going to hold off from doing that. Maybe I’ll post my results daily for P90X round 2? :-)
The weight I’m using varies, but I’m using anywhere from 15 pounds up to 25 pounds. As far as reps, I’m sticking to the 8-10 rep range to try to bulk up. As far as the pull ups, I’m doing between 8-12 each set depending on the type of pull up, and when in the workout I’m doing them. As you know, I really prepped myself before P90X for the pull ups so that has definitely helped me out. I’m also pretty short (about 5′ 5”) so that has made them a little bit easier too.
you make me sick. 8-12 each set. my god.
I am hoping by 90 days I can do that many. Crap, youw ill be knocking out 25 a set after 90 days.
You will! Just keep pushing yourself harder each time! Just remember I’m pretty short so I don’t have that much to lift!
how much do you weigh? I am 6ft 174lbs
Dang you skinny guys! I’m not fat, just big, from football and other sports. I’m 6’2″ 221 lbs (down from 230 since i started P90X). Partially why pull ups are rough for me. I can get 2 maybe 3 at this point. Struggled with 1 when I started. I have my bar low enough to the ground I can use my legs if needed though and try to make sure I get at least 8 reps using my arms as much as possible. I tried using a band hanging from the ceiling. I just could never get enough resistance to make it worthwhile…without being afraid of the bands snapping and putting my eye out.
I fluctuate from 135-145. I think pre-P90X I was around 140 (don’t have my info. in front of me). I told you! I’m just a short guy.
Just messing with you :). It’s pure jealousy that you can do more pull ups!
I know you’re joking! It’s funny because I wish I was your size! I always have had trouble bulking up which I guess is a good thing and a bad thing.
Arms and legs are done. Totally exhausted today. Some days are sure harder than others. I went out for breakfast today and it just didn’t taste as good as usual. Can’t even eat as much. Not really worth it! I’ll be bringing it tomorrow for Kenpo and Ab ripper. I skipped it tonight and will do it tomorrow morning.
You’ll always have good days and bad days so I wouldn’t worry about it! Sounds like your eating habits are changing and it’s becoming more natural! Good job! Also great job for sticking with P90X!!
