Ever have one of those days where working out is the LAST thing you want to do?

Maybe you have a million and one other things you need to do swirling around in your head…

Maybe you’ve had a rough day, and your head just isn’t in it.

Or maybe you just flat out don’t want to workout.

I think we ALL have those days (no matter who you are).

So, without further ado, here’s my secret weapon to getting an instant shot of motivation, excitement, & FIRE so you can power through and get your workout done…when it’s the last thing you want to do…

There you go!

As I mentioned in the video one of the #1 reasons I love Fit Radio is that professional DJ’s mix together songs so you’re not listening to individual tracks (that have a start and end point)…

In otherwords…

You’re working out giving it your all when…

BOOM.

The song ends, and there’s about 10 seconds or so of dead silence.

Or you’re listening to Pandora, and the song ends, and you have to listen to 2 minutes of stupid commercials.

That can definitely be a mood killer.

Well, with Fit Radio you won’t have to worry about that. Because each mix is a continuous song.

Their mixes are anywhere from 20 minutes or so up to about 60 minutes. And they have mixes in pretty much any genre that is good for keeping you motivated and hyped up during a workout (Classic Rock, EDM, Hip Hop, Top Pop Hits, Country, etc. etc. etc.).

It’s awesome.

And I just can’t express enough how much MUSIC (and Fit Radio in particular)…

…has transformed my workouts.

I push harder, I get in the zone easier, and I just have more fun.

AND, has helped me plow through and JUST DO IT on those days where working out is the very last thing I want to do.

Got 2 BIG BIG, HUGE updated for you! These updates mean you and I getting the body of our dreams…FASTER, EASIER, & TASTIER…you’ll know what I mean in a moment :-)

My wife and I recently got back from the Beachbody Coach Summit in Las Vegas and I wanted to quickly share with you the 2 big updates that came from that event that are game changers for you and I.

I gotta say…after being a Coach now for 3 years and 6 months…I have loved every bit of it. I love the company. I love the products, and I love the people.

There’s just something about helping people….Helping people get into the best shape of their lives so they can live longer, happier, healthier lives…

There’s just something so dang fulfilling about that. :-) AND, I get major accountability for my own fitness journey, AND I get paid for it. How freakin cool is that?

As I’ll be revealing to you in the coming days, I have NOT been moving forward in my fitness journey over the past 60 days or so. I’ll be sharing more on why, what’s happened in a blog post soon, so stay tuned.

JenHi Guys, Jen Register here, you all know my husband as a fitness-lover, but what you don’t know is that I was the original fitness lover. I had been on my fitness journey for about 3 years before Jonathan finally decided to join me. In January of 2007 I weighed 165lbs and just got engaged to a man who weighed about 25lbs less than that. I know all the woman out there will understand how this can be the ultimate motivator. With my new engagement ring on I managed to shed 30 lbs by my wedding day and have kept if off for almost 6 years now.

If you would like to know how I have been able to accomplish the feat and you can to…continue reading…if you’re not interested then you’re probably not at the right website?

Rule 1. Plan it out

I’m not talking about the day before, although that is important, I’m talking about get a planner, use it for all your other appointments, but in that calendar write down exactly what workout you will be doing each day for the first 2-3 months of the year (depending on what Beachbody program you chose). As you enter the last month of your program start planning what you are going to do for the next 2-3 months. Trust me; it is really hard to not do that workout when it is glaring at you on your planner each day! Also, each week you should be looking at the workouts that you have scheduled for that week and deciding if it will work for you. Beachbody is nice of enough to give you a schedule that works best for the program, but if it doesn’t work for you one week, you can still get it done. If you have to move your rest day to a really busy day or move Yoga X to a really slow day, it’s ok, as long as you are still getting them done.

Rule 2. Tell your friends and family

Let them know you are starting a new healthy and fit lifestyle and would appreciate their support. Tell them to ask you periodically how you’re doing with it. Ask them to be considerate of your new food choices. Jonathan and I are typically pretty healthy eaters, but we are also human and do cheat every once in a while. It is funny to us that our close friends seem to apologize for poor food choices when we’re around or try to have healthy options if they know we are going to be coming to a social gathering. Your friends and family love you and will support you, but you have to let them know you need their support.

Rule 3. Find an Accountability buddy or buddies

This is key! Jonathan and I tend to be each other’s accountability buddies throughout the year, but at certain times during the year I have been known to run challenge groups and it is amazing how this helps my accountability even more. The idea that you are not only letting yourself down, but letting someone else down is typically harder for most people. Facebook is a great easy way to find and keep in touch with accountability buddies. Through messages, wall posts, and even groups, you can find easy ways to keep yourself healthy throughout the year!

Rule 4. Plan healthy activities

If you have the opportunity to have an opinion when it comes to a social activity, vote for some healthy. Jonathan and I regularly choose places for meals out that we know have healthy options. Another example is for my birthday each year I try to pick something active, one year it was rock climbing, another was a timed scavenger hunt around the neighborhood! We also enjoy hikes in the park for double dates instead of movies, less risk of tempting yourself with that delicious smelling popcorn!!

Rule 5. Get rid of your “fat” clothes

This rule is for a little later in the year, but VERY important. Once I was officially down a size, I got rid of all my larger clothes, not only does it feel awesome, but you will have more of a financial incentive to stay smaller. I personally work as a bank manager and have to wear suits almost every day. Before losing my weight I was a solid size 12, since losing I am a size 6-8 (depending on cut), and the minute my size 6 suits start to get tight, I re-evaluate my nutrition and exercise plans, and get back on track!

Rule 6. Reward yourself

This ABSOLUTELY does NOT mean with food. Remember, that’s how you got to the point where you need to lose weight!! Set a specific goal; (i.e. 2 weeks of eating clean, lose 5 lbs, lose 2 in. on your waist or hips, ect.) when you set that goal, also set a reward for reaching it. Some reward ideas include a manicure, a new shirt or dress, a trip to your favorite museum, or tickets to a sporting event or concert. It is completely based on what would motivate you, but remember, food or any derivative of food, should NEVER be the reward.

I hope you find these 6 rules helpful. They will give you not only the ability to lose weight, but the ability to keep it off too! Do you have 30 lbs. you would like to lose? I know I did, and these helped me get there and stay there!! And I know you can do it too!

When Will You See ResultsJonathan…when will I see results with P90X? Or Insanity, TurboFire, Shakeology, etc. etc.?

I probably get this question at least once a week so it just might be something you are wondering about.

You’ve started a fitness program, and you’re anxious to see those results and wondering when the heck will you see them! Totally understandable!

So, you ready for the answer? I’ll first give you the short answer, then I’ll break it down and explain it more in detail.

When should you start seeing results with your fitness program (no matter what program you’re doing)?

The answer is…

I have no idea! :-)

Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but I really have no clue when you’ll see results. Why?

The Long Explanation On When You’ll See Results…

It depends on a number of factors which makes it impossible to say that you’ll get X results by X date. When YOU will get results depends on-

  • Your nutrition
  • Your intensity level during the workouts
  • Your metabolism
  • Your body type
  • If you stick with ALL of the workouts or not
  • Any medical issues you have (that you know about/and that you don’t know about)
  • Etc. etc. etc.

So do you now understand why I can’t tell you when you’ll see results with your fitness program? The timing on when the results come is different for everyone and it’s IMPOSSIBLE to give a definitive date on when you’ll see results.

But Jonathan, What If I Give 100% To The Workouts & My Nutrition?

You’ve gotta be able to tell me when I’ll see results if I give 100% to the workouts and my nutrition…Right?

WRONG! :-)

You still have a different metabolism, different body type, etc. etc. I still have no clue when you’ll see results.

Ok, I Can Tell You This On When You’ll See Results…

I can tell you, if you give 100% to your workouts AND you stick with the nutrition side of things…

Unless you have some type of medical condition, you should see some results. How much? Again I couldn’t tell you.

Will you lose all of the weight and achieve  all of your goals your first time through the program? Maybe, maybe not. I couldn’t tell you again.

Some people do achieve all of their goals, some don’t.

Important Thing To Keep In Mind

All Great Achievements Require TimeWorking out, eating right, should NOT just be a 60, or 90 day thing. So if you don’t hit your goals your first time through your fitness program…it’s ok!

This should be a LIFELONG commitment. That may sound to be a bit much, but that’s what it needs to be. I’d be crappy Coach to tell you anything different.

You only have ONE body while you’re hear on Earth. So you should ALWAYS be taking care of it by exercising and eating right if you want to live as long, and healthy of a life as possible . . . So you can enjoy AS much time on this Earth with family, and friends.

When I started P90X the first time was I expecting a total lifestyle change? Was I expecting to have to continue working out after my first 90 days?

I honestly didn’t even think about it. All I knew, is I was tired of looking the way I looked. I was tired of feeling the way I felt. I wanted change. I wanted to live a life free of sickness, disease so I can grow up to be that old dude that own’s a Woody and surfs all day. That’s ALL I knew. :-)

And what happened? I changed. This journey turned from a 90 day fitness program, into a TOTAL lifestyle change.

Over 2 years later, I’m in the best shape of my life. I look good, I feel better, stronger, faster, then I have ever felt before. And I ain’t EVER, EVER going back to the old me.

So if you don’t accomplish the results you want during your first round of whatever program you’re doing…

Don’t quit.

Just look at everything you did during that first round. Be 100% honest with yourself on whether you REALLY gave it your all. Whether you REALLY stuck with the nutrition.

Correct your mistakes.

…And Keep Moving Forward.

THAT is how you see the changes you want. THAT is how you get the body of your dreams.

So…

Just.

Keep.

Pushing.

It seems like we can all stand to improve willpower. There are so many outside pressures on us  to NOT eat healthy and exercise daily from our family, friends, co-workers, the television, and everything else around us. It’s to the point that you almost feel like you’re a weirdo and people give you a hard time for saying NO to having a desert, or telling people that you can’t do something because you HAVE to get your workout in for the day. That is why it is so CRITICAL that we improve willpower.

When it comes down to it, the only way we are going to get fit and healthy and STAY fit and healthy is by finding the motivation and commitment from within ourselves. Because YOU are truly the only person that can make YOU get off of the couch and push play and do P90X or some other workout.

You’ve got to have willpower, and lots of it. Pay attention because I’m about to show you how to improve willpower, and how to stand your ground and stick to your goals – no matter what.

The “Secret” To Improve Willpower?

The big secret to improve willpower is that there is no secret. People who have an iron will formed their strength of character over years and years of good decisions piled on top of one another. Where they’re at right now, it’s habit. They do the right thing without even thinking about it.

If you’ve just started P90X, you probably dread the intense workouts. You know it’s going to be more challenging than anything you’ve done, and that can make you shy away. But people who have stuck to it are in the exact opposite position. Fitness and nutrition are all they know now. To do something else wouldn’t just be out of habit. It would simply feel wrong.

The key to improve willpower is to build upon the momentum of your previous decisions. The longer you stick to plan, the harder it is to deviate from that plan. All you have to think about is this moment. If you make the right choice now, it will be easier to make the right choice again and again. Commit to your workouts. Don’t deviate. Make one powerful move after another, and it won’t be long before it’s second nature. If there was a secret, THAT would be the secret to improve willpower.

Dealing With Peer Pressure – Improve Willpower

Back when I started with P90X, I found it was really easy for me to eat right as long as I was cooking in my own kitchen and staying confined to my “bubble” at home. Problems start to arise when you’re eating with friends and family who aren’t on the same plan. They’re used to eating how the rest the world eats, and they might feel a little insulted when you say no to whatever delicious meal they’ve prepared for you. It’s not like you’re telling them they need to go on a diet or anything, but that’s how a lot of people interpret it.

Let’s face it. You’re going to have to learn how to say no, even when it’s uncomfortable. You will have to say no to your grandmother (I’ve had to do it, and it sucks), your friends, and possibly others who are even closer to you. Is it easy? Nope. But you can at least do them a favor by carefully explaining what your goals are and how this particular decision helps you to achieve them. Let them know that you aren’t trying to get them to do anything. You really just want to do this for yourself.

If you’re young, drinking is a hard one. Everyone’s always looking for an excuse to go out, and it seems as though drinking is the center of it all. If you have willpower, you’ll learn to limit your exposure to the scene. Do go out at night, but avoid places that aren’t jumping. Only have one drink and no more. It’s well earned if you spend the next 3 hours dancing the night away. :-)

Most importantly, have a purpose! You don’t have much time in life. Devote it to projects and people that mean something to you. Don’t just fold because everyone else is doing it. This is, once again, the kind of thing that builds with every empowered decision you make. Saying “no” once makes it easier to say it again and again. Have a small circle of friends who support you goals, and kindly tell everyone else you’re too busy.

Reward Yourself When The Time Is Right – Improve Willpower

People are always looking for one reason or another to pat themselves on the back, but if you want to have real willpower, you’ll need to know the difference between a real cause for celebration and something that’s a mere excuse. Should you have a drink every now again? Of course you should! But you should do it because you’re celebrating a real accomplishment you made with the force of your own willpower. Don’t celebrate non-accomplishments like Labor day or karaoke night.

I know it sounds so simple. It doesn’t require any weird mental voodoo. You just have to do the right thing, and it’ll be easier to do it again. Be your own person and make decisions because it’s what you want, not what everyone else wants from you. Keep doing this every minute, every hour, and every day. You will be a stronger, more intense, and more driven version of your current self. By the time you’re the poster child of willpower, you won’t even realize you have so much of it.

The Dark SideYour mind is an extremely powerful tool and it can be used for good OR for evil! By using Jedi mind control techniques you can use your mind to ensure you accomplish ALL of your health and fitness goals, whether they are to lose weight, get toned, or to get ripped. Your success at accomplishing your goals actually totally hinges on your mindset. If you have the wrong mindset then you can consider yourself part of the Dark Side and you are ultimately doomed to failure and destruction.

Sounds pretty dramatic, eh? Well luckily, you can pull yourself out of the Dark Side and you can use your mind for good to ensure your success. The keyword here is “YOU,” because you and only you can pull yourself out of the Dark Side and into a mindset that breeds success. So I’m going to stop pretending to be a Star Wars nerd and to know it all about the Jedi mind control techniques (I should have had my wife write this blog post since she’s a big fan). :-) To me, “the Force” is using your inner strength within your mind to find success.

Let’s continue onward with our journey and go over some specific techniques that you can do to use the force to get yourself into the right mindset.

Jedi Mind Control Technique #1 – Establish Your Why Or Die

Ok, you really won’t die, however, without a clearly defined “Why” it’s like being in an ARC-170 Starfighter without a pilot. That is obviously very, very bad and you likely will die! So ask yourself, “Why the heck am I doing this workout program?” Don’t just come up with the usual reasons like, “I want to lose weight,” or “I want to get toned,” or “I want to get ripped.”  Think deeper…How will losing the weight make you feel? What will the weight loss do for you? The deeper reasons are the TRUE reasons why you are working out. This is what you need to focus your mind on and what will motivate you to keep working out on the days you just don’t feel like it.

Your Action Steps From Master Yoda- Take a few minutes and write down on a sheet of paper 3 DEEP reasons why you are working out.

Jedi Mind Control Technique #2 –
Commit Or Submit

By not making a commitment to yourself deep down inside that you are going to stick with your workout program no matter what, you are setting yourself up for failure and you ought to go ahead and throw in the light saber, I mean towel. You are essentially submitting yourself to the Dark Side, because more then likely the evil excuses will eventually crop up and you’ll eventually quit. You absolutely MUST make a commitment to YOURSELF that you are going to do whatever it takes to get your workouts done and you are going to MAKE IT a priority!

Your Action Steps From Master Yoda- Pick up the phone (yep Yoda said..the phone, not by email, by text, or by facebook) and call 5 close friends and tell them this,” Hey Obi-Wan…I just wanted to tell you that I’m start P90X tomorrow. I am going to finish the program no matter what, but could you do me a favor and the next time we talk make sure to ask me how’s it going with P90X? Just bug me about it. I’d really appreciate your support.”

Jedi Mind Control Technique #3 –
Stay Positive Or Be Bositive

I was going to try to keep the rhyming theme going, but I couldn’t think of something that rhymed with positive so I made up a word. Anyways, if you truly want to succeed and accomplish your weight loss, fitness, and health goals you’ve gotta be positive! You need to get rid of “I can’t” from your vocabulary and replace it with “I currently struggle with ____” (thanks Tony Horton for that one). You may just be getting back into fitness and struggling to keep up and struggling to do the exercises. Or you maybe a fitness nut and have hit a plateau. Struggling with the exercises or hitting a plateau is only a temporary issue (unless you quit). If you stick with it and stay positive you will get past it.

So use the force…Use the inner strength within yourself to get through your workouts and to stick with it. You CAN, and you WILL do it! What’s your other option? To quit and go back to your old ways? Is that what you want to do? I didn’t think so…So STAY POSITIVE and JUST DO YOUR BEST and don’t worry about anything else!

Your Action Steps From Master Yoda- In 1 or 2 sentences write out a positive statement where you are telling yourself that you can do anything that comes your way and that you will stick with your fitness plan no matter what. Write it down and read this out loud when you first wake up in the morning and right before you go to bed. Do this for 7 days straight. This is a powerful technique and it can help to transform your entire mindset.

Jedi Mind Control Technique #4 –
For True Jedi Leaders Only

R2-D2 & C-3POThis technique isn’t for everyone. This is for Jedi’s who are true leaders who want to not only get fit and healthy themselves, but who want to take a stand against obesity and to pay it forward to help others (all while earning some extra cash to help pay for a new droid like R2-D2 or C-3PO). This is the route I went and it started out as something to do just for fun when I had the time. I did it initially for ME so that I could have something hanging over my head to force me to stick with my workouts. It worked, and now it’s WAY bigger than me! It’s about paying it forward to help others. As an added bonus I built it up to a point now that I work from the comfort of my home and I earn a full time income from it. We now have a rapid growing team of Jedi leaders all across the universe.
