Phewww! It’s been a crazy week so far, but I’m happy to announce that I officially finished round 2 of the P90X workout last Saturday! So I guess that means I now have my masters in P90X!?! :-) This round seemed like it flew by even faster than the first round! It feels great to finish and I’m extremely excited to start the P90X Insanity Hybrid that I put together.
After this round of P90X, I’m definitely in even better shape now than what I was after my first round. My reps for the most part have increased overall during the exercises, and I continually pushed myself to use heavier weight. During the first round of P90X I think I may have focused a little too hard on increasing my reps, which caused me to develop bad habits. During this round my wife (Jen) helped me discover that I had pretty bad form during the pull up exercises. I had developed a bad habit of not going all the way down during my pull ups so I could go back up faster and do more reps. I didn’t even realize I was doing this, but Jen pointed it out to me during one of the Back workouts.
I corrected that habit by making a point to drop to the bottom and pause for a second and then go back up to do another pull up. This caused the number of pull ups that I was able to do to go down pretty dramatically, but I wasn’t worried about it because I was getting an even better workout than before. Each week my reps continued to increase, and I’m basically able to do the same number of pulls ups as I was doing before when I was “cheating.”
This round of P90X was also more mentally harder than the first (with the diet and the workouts). Since I had already done the complete P90X workout before, it was really easy to think, “Ohhh, I’ve done this before, so I can cheat a little bit or not push as hard.” I think that mindset of “I’ve done this before, so I don’t need to push myself as hard,” really was the cause of the days when I wanted to do anything but workout. By thinking that way, I basically put working out at the bottom of my priority list. When I finally got to my workout, I was just doing it to just finish so I could check it off of my to do list. I really struggled with that this round. I guess I need to just always keep in the back of my mind my “Why” for getting in shape and staying in shape (you can read my “Why” here).
I’ve worked waaaaaayyyyyyyy to hard to just throw it all away because of screwed up priorities. I feel GREAT, and I never, ever want to go back to my old ways of being lazy and unhealthy. I’m going to just leave it at that! :-) I hope you’ve had an AWESOME week! Keep pushing play!
